Dr. Moungi Bawendi, the first Tunisian scientist and the third Arab scientist to win The Nobel Prize in Chemistry, along with his colleagues Louis Bruce and Alexey Ekimov, who succeeded in developing quantum dots – extremely small particles in the nanometer range. They are used in the transmission of light through television devices, LED lamps, they can also be used as fluorescent imaging tools in biomedical applications, such as identifying cancerous tissue.
The Swedish Academy, which awards the Nobel Prize, said: “The Nobel laureates in Chemistry 2023 have succeeded in producing very small particles whose properties are determined by quantum phenomena. These particles, called quantum dots, have now become of great importance in nanotechnology.”
Let us celebrate together this historical moment, which is expected to lead to better scientific advancements in the world.
